Ourielle Auvé, whose artist name is Ouri, grew up in France in a family of Afro-Caribbean descent before arriving in Montréal at the age of 16 to start composition studies. It was here that her artistry and vision grew, establishing herself in the city's music community as a producer, instrumentalist and vocalist, and sharing Montréal's rich underground rave culture with magical late-night DJ sets. It was during her many collaborations that the itch to explore her own abilities as a singer and songwriter took shape. Using a variety of synthesizers (including the Moog Sub Phatty and Dave Smith Prophet 08), amplified guitar, cello, and multiple effects pedals, she builds intense atmospheres, navigating beautifully between impactful power and harmonic fluidity.
After a year 2019 rich in collaborations, Ouri has developed a duo project with Helena Deland under the mysterious name of Hildegard. Whether solo or accompanied, her journey and her music have not finished making sparks.
AMPLIFY D.A.I is an initiative of the British Council in partnership with MUTEK Montréal, MUTEK Buenos Aires, Artlab in Argentina, Oi Futuro in Brazil and Somerset House Studios in the UK. The programme is supported by Canada Council for the Arts, Instituto Nacional de la Música and Fundación Williams.
