Blogheader miami eng

FilmGate Miami, MUTEK, the National Film Board of Canada and O Cinema are launching the Montréal/Miami New Narratives Lab, a cross-cultural exchange that will bring together creators, organizations, and disciplines in innovative technology to explore the future of augmented and mixed-reality storytelling. The project will also be an opportunity for continued work toward gender parity in the global technology sector.

What we are looking for

This call for ideas is addressed to experienced female-identifying creators with strong ideas and a unique perspective, residing in Miami or Montreal. Applicants may be artists, designers, coders or storytellers from diverse backgrounds, working in disciplines such as virtual, augmented and mixed reality-storytelling, data science, cinema, architecture, literature, music, fine arts, or street art. Preferred candidates will have a deep knowledge of their own field; experience in virtual, augmented, or mixed reality is not mandatory.

The process

Six creators, three from Miami and three from Montreal, will engage in a creative project from February to December 2021. The lab will open with a three-day design workshop in Miami. In the following months, the creators will receive remote mentoring to help them prepare for the presentation of their concept and their creative process. Finally, the creators will present their work to an audience of professionals and producers in two sessions, at MUTEK Forum in Montreal in September 2021 and at the FilmGate Interactive Media Festival in Miami in December 2021.

The selected creators will each receive CAD$2000 for their participation.

Deadline for applications: Tuesday, October 13, 2020, at 12 noon, Montreal and Miami time
