A World Premiere lead by Daito Manabe + Rhizomatiks Research + ELEVENPLAY

On April 13, Infamous interdisciplinary digital Renaissance man Daito Manabe and Rhizomatiks Research will lead a choreography that combines the movements of five dancers from ELEVENPLAY with an arsenal of drones, virtual objects and AI computer interventions. Described as a dance installation and inspired by Alan Turing, the performance explores the interrelationships between the performing arts and mathematics, as well as the act of perceiving physical modes of expression and the world itself. The world premiere of this new work follows on similar performances that combine corporeal and mechanical bodies in spectacular gyrations of dance and technology and will take place at the Monument-National.

About the artists

Daito Manabe is a media artist who utilizes programming, sound and interaction design to develop stage production technology for both international large-scale events and entertainment projects. His unique visions have resulted in collaborations with leading artists including Björk, Nosaj Thing, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Squarepusher, Perfume, and more across a diverse range of genres. Also the director of Rhizomatiks Research, the other members include founder Motoi Ishibashi, Yuya Hanai, Muryo Homma and Momoko Nishimoto.

Founded and directed by MIKIKO, ELEVENPLAY is a dance company composed of female dancers that explores the artistic possibilities of kinesthetic expression and technology. Mikiko Manabe, Aya Komen, Saya Shinohara, Minako, Maruyama, Emi Tamura and Yu Tokutake will take the stage in Montréal.
