Community and Web Content Manager


MUTEK is looking for a passionate individual to assist the programming and communications departments in managing its multiple online platforms for MUTEK Festival and its professional Forum: social networks, newsletters, website, mobile application and various online project management tools. Candidates should be organized, versatile, autonomous and curious. They will actively take part in the organization of the festival in an open-office, flexible and stimulating work environment.


MUTEK will be applying to fund this position through the Montreal Art Council’s DémART program. The program funds the first 30 weeks of the contract which will be extended for 10 weeks to cover the festival period. As per the program guidelines, we are looking for “professional culturally diverse* and immigrant (new arrivals* or first-generation*)” candidates. (cf. Glossary on page 2). Program details here:

Tasks and responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Communications and marketing team, the incumbent works in tandem with the Digital Marketing Strategist. They are expected to attend production meetings and will receive support to learn and master tools and web platforms. The person will also have the opportunity to discover how an international festival works and take part in the stages of its deployment. More specifically:

  • Develop and apply social media strategies: In collaboration with the communication team, deploy efforts on social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, SoundCloud and Pinterest): track, adapt and respect scheduled publications, write French and/or English language copy, research and provide relevant content.
  • Create and update content for the website and mobile app: Artist biographies, festival events, programming, news and current events, partner events, mentions and partner logos to be included in MUTEK’s CMS and possibly in the mobile app.
  • Perform strategic intelligence by keeping watch of new technology trends, digital creativity innovations and local and international music and tech industry news.
  • Propose editorial content – News, releases, text, audio and video about festival artists and Forum speakers.

Profile :
Degree in Communication, Digital Media or Journalism
Proficiency in English or French (written and spoken), and knowledge of the other. Good writing skills.
Knowledge and interest in social networks: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, SoundCloud, LinkedIn.
Familiarity with collaborative working tools: Slack, Google Drive (Google doc and Google Sheets), Trello, Hootsuite.
Asset: Previous experience in managing online content, website administration, CMS or blog.
At ease with the specific rhythm of a festival and flexible to unexpected situations.
Autonomy, while having a collaborative team spirit.
Familiarity, strong interest or previous experience in the music industry, digital art or A/V performance
Meet the requirements of the DémART program:

Start date: January 4, 2021
End date:
Mid-September 2021 (The DémART internship end on June 30, however, MUTEK will extend the contract by 10 weeks)

Between January 4 and March 15: Average of 8 hours per week.
March 15-June 30 (end of internship): 35 hours per week.
July 1-September 15 (Festival period under contract): Full time, with extended availability.
Hourly rate:
Candidates must own their own laptop.

New arrivals: Immigrants who have resided in Canada for less than 5 years.

1st generation immigrant: Persons born outside of Canada who are or were landed immigrants of Canada. This generation also includes a small number of persons born outside of Canada whose parents are Canadian citizens by birth, as well as non-permanent residents (persons from other countries who have work permits or student visas or are refugee claimants) and their family members residing with them in Canada).

Immigrant (new arrivals): Newcomer to Canada who has lived in Canada for less than five years.

Immigrant (first-generation) - meaning one of the following:
▸ a person born outside of Canada who is, or has been, a landed immigrant to Canada;
▸ a person born outside of Canada to parents who have Canadian citizenship by birth;
▸ a person with temporary residency status (coming from another country and possessing a work or study permit or who is a refugee claimant, as well as family members who have accompanied this person to Canada).
