MUTEK MX Edition 17
Within one of the most challenging years in the history of the Festival, working almost to the limit and with reduced resources, MUTEK MX celebrated an Edition 17 in a hybrid, special and collaborative format; a unique exercise that, through collective effort, consolidated the importance of forming networks around digital art. The convergence of the 2 artistic communities of Mexico and Japan, in their desire to explore new frontiers that transcend physical limitations and social isolation, brought together artists, innovators and technological visionaries for 5 consecutive days in 3 virtual stages, a gallery interactive, a series of lectures, talks and master classes in Digi Lab format, and a listening room with continuous selections from the sound archives of the MUTEK network.
The central Mexican-Japanese programming was extended through the MUTEK Connect series, which provided a platform for collaborations with MUTEK's global branches and our international partners from Insomnia & Ekko Festival in Norway, the Club to Club festival in Italy and the B39 / PRECTXE festival in South Korea. In summary, more than 8,500 users on virtual.mutek.org during 5 days of premieres and 15 days of replays; 77 artists from 16 countries and nearly 114,500 views of all content deployed from December 9 to January 1.
We sincerely thank all the artists and virtual assistants who accompanied us in this historic edition, undoubtedly a challenge that ventured us to overcome the adversities of an extremely complicated year for the industry and that prompted us to write the future of our network, a future based on collaboration and the infinite possibilities of technology.
A special thanks to all the cities that are part of our network, El Foro, Surface, Intus, #mxvrhub, AltspaceVR, Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, Folklore, AKFN, Timecode, Secretaría de Cultura y Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores.
