Maverick producer Colleen pushes dub into new realms with her breathtaking live show: MUTEK 2016
Cécile Schott, aka Colleen, has been on our radar since 2003’s charming Everybody Alive Wants Answers. Built from samples, that album acted like a proof of concept, and since then Schott has developed the sound into something far more expansive, bringing a number of live instruments and treatments into the fold. When we caught up with her in Montreal, she told us she was lucky to have been able to perform. She had flown into Toronto and the airline had lost her bags, that of course were chock full of gear – an assortment of effects pedals and small instruments – crucial to her live show. Thankfully, Schott recovered her setup, and explained to us how important the live experience is for her, and how her interest in dub reggae has informed some of the processes.
