After studying Music Composition at CalArts with Leonard Stein, Morton Subotnick, Mel Powell, and Morton Feldman, Zack Settel became interested in the use of technology in music production/performance and moved to Paris with a scholarship at IRCAM. He now composes music full-time, and teaches composition at the University of Montreal. Settel is also a founding partner and head artistic consultant of Zeep.com, developers of music production software for surround sound and audio postproduction. Since 1996, Settel, with Zeep, has been involved in pioneering work for the development of surround-sound music tools. Much of Settel's music includes the use of advanced live interactive electro-acoustic systems ('audio rocket science').
