send + receive is an international festival of experimental music and sound art, programming from Treaty 1 Territory, on the lands of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene Peoples and the homeland of the Métis Nation.

send + receive is one of the longest running media arts festivals in North America focusing exclusively on sound. The annual festival showcases the innovative work of Manitoban, Canadian, and international artists, engaging critically with audio-based art in a global context.

send + receive began in 1998 as a project of Video Pool Media Arts Centre. In 2001, due to an increased interest in the event from local, national, and international communities, send + receive became an incorporated entity, further enabling growth in creative and critical programming.

The central activity of send + receive is an annual festival focused on the production and reception of sound. send + receive also co-presents screenings, installations, curatorial projects, and performances throughout the year. Conveying the richness and curiosity of Treaty 1 sound arts to the world, and bringing a world of experimentation to our home, send + receive programs in a spirit of internationalism and regional advocacy at once.
