Patrick Savage is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies at Keio SFC, where he directs the CompMusic Lab for comparative and computational musicology. He has academic degrees in music composition (BA), psychology (MSc) and musicology (PhD), and has won national awards singing Japanese folk song. His research on the evolution of music and culture has appeared in outlets including Nature, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the USA, The New York Times, and The Economist.

Keio SFC X Music is a consortium of Keio University Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC) researchers and artists focused on music and science. This performance is co-produced by Keio SFC X Music faculty members Patrick Savage (CompMusic Lab), Nao Tokui (Computational Creativity Lab), Shinya Fujii (NeuroMusic Lab), Yoichi Kitayama (Song Lab), and Akira Wakita. It features a guest performance by Utae Ehara on mukkuri (Ainu mouth harp) as well as the following X Music students: Gakuto Chiba (shamisen), Marin Naruse (sanshin), Hideo Daikoku (director), Momoha Matsuhashi (visual art), Ryo Nishikado (visual art), Reo Anzai (sound art), Santa Naruse (sound art).
