Whether it’s through mobile applications or the use of specialized headsets, mixed reality offers every artistic discipline—from the digital and visual arts to theatre, music, literature and architecture—tremendous creative potential, in addition to new content-distribution channels, and the opportunity to take advantage of innovative new business models.
To help creators navigate these technological changes, and thanks to support from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, the Forum will present a series of conversations revealing the full potential of mixed reality in the visual-art and book sectors, as well as its benefits for cultural institutions and events—with the participation of Anteism Books, Albedo Informatics and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, as well as Sheffield Doc/Fest– Alternate Realities.

Ryan Thompson - Anteism Books
Ryan Thompson is a co-publisher at Anteism Books in Montréal. Since the establishment of Anteism in 2004, the publishing house has embraced innovative technologies, such as augmented reality (AR), and is currently focused on the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on art and artistic publishing practices. Anteism has published art books by Canadian artists including Cynthia Girard, Scorpion Dagger, Aamna Muzaffar, and Frances Adair Mckenzie, whose book "Glossed Over and Tucked Up" features AR animations. Ryan Thompson is also part of Bookart, Anteism's printing and binding workshop
Arthur Yeung - Albedo Informatics
Arthur Yeung is COO/Producer at Albedo Informatics, an Augmented Reality studio working on an AR content creation platform/app and a geo-location-based mobile game called SIGIL. He uses his program management skills and wide network in the arts and entertainment sector to develop and produce original properties and branded and immersive content for DimensionGate (which became a viral sensation after uploading its Virtual Reality videos to YouTube).
He was previously Programs Manager at CFC Media Lab - the unique production think-tank, training institute, and accelerator for emerging interactive and digital creators and entertainment technology startups.
His range of professional experience has also included event production and programming; film festivals (Toronto International Film Festival, Reel Asian); PR and marketing (Twentieth Century Fox, National Film Board of Canada, lifestyle agencies); and experience as a podcast co-host/producer. His electronic soundtrack work and multi-disciplinary installation performances have taken him across North America and Asia. Arthur's distinctions include an Istvan Anhalt Electroacoustics award for composition, and he has also been a recipient of the Reelworld Film Festival’s Trailblazer Award.
Charline Bélanger - Montreal Museum of Fine Arts
Charlène Bélanger currently holds the position of Program Manager - Research, Innovation, and Digital Mediation at the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts, and she is also Associate Professor at the department of didactics of the Université du Québec à Montréal (Canada). She is in charge of PRISM, the research and innovation laboratory in digital mediation of the MMFA. The lab is a catalyst for collaborations between university researchers, technological creators, and museum professionals who, together, participate in strengthening the digital museum and cultural offer in the province of Québec. Through human-centred research and innovation, PRISM creates knowledge on digital mediation in museums and other cultural institutions and participates in their dissemination and transfer in Québec and abroad.
Joseph Cutts - Sheffield Doc/Fest – Alternate Realities
Curator and Head of Alternate Realities Joe Cutts joined Sheffield Doc/Fest in 2011. He has been integral to shaping the identity and ethos of the Alternate Realities program, stripping away the trend of modern technologies and aligning those with timeless forms in contemporary art. He is currently leading on the artistic vision for the festival and year-round national and international artist and exhibition programs.
His research over the last decade in the ethics of this field has led to the workshop program for artists and curators, "Welcoming New Art Forms (I was trendy once)" Pilot - Digital Cultures: Living Archives, Warsaw.
Cutts is also a video installation artist based at S1 Artspace in Sheffield. His work is created using a rigorous lyricism in the approach to moving image, with his interpretations constructed with structured methodologies and non-linear narrative. Contributing properties of performance and sculpture are subject to his setup. In 2019, his work was part of "Construction House", an exhibition of newly commissioned work exhibited alongside archived artwork from Bauhaus masters Moholy-Nagy László and Marianne Brandt, as part of the Bauhaus centenary.
