The Argentine artist Fernanda Flores, also known as Symi, is a musician, composer, producer, and educator.
She studied classical guitar and viola at the Conservatorio de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires and simultaneously pursued jazz guitar studies privately. She was a student of the Argentine maestro Sami Abadi, learning his system of musical improvisation through signs, and was part of some of his orchestral and ensemble formations.
In 2010, she participated in the rhizomatic orchestra "A los Gauchos psicomísticos del miasma," also directed by Abadi. From the same year until 2012, she was part of bands like "La Práctica de las Llamas," "La Industria del Porno," "La piba y el Chamo," among others.
Currently, she teaches composition and musical experimentation classes and workshops, produces for various artists, composes soundtracks for audiovisual projects, and is a member of the electropop psychedelic band "Costas."
From 2017 to 2021, she released five albums with her project: "CR," "CR450," "CR570," "CR 350," and "TR 36000/2." The last two were published by the Argentine label Isla Visión. She is also part of the Poetic and Sonic Herbarium: "Al ciervo de los pantanos."
Since 2021, she has been an experimental sound artist in the Amplify D.A.I. program, an initiative by the British Council aimed at empowering the professional development of individuals identifying as women.
Through this program, she completed her first collaborative artistic residency with the Brazilian visual artist Keila Sankofa. The resulting work, "Presente das Presenças," was presented in March 2022 at the Contemporary Art Fair MAPA in Buenos Aires in its fourth edition, at the Amplify Occupation in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, at the 2022 Mutek Festival in Montreal, and at Mutek Argentina in the same year.
