Alejandra Cárdenas (aka Ale Hop) is a Berlin-based artist, researcher, and experimental instrumentalist from Peru. She began her career in the 2000s when she joined Lima's underground music scene, playing with numerous bands whose style varied from punk to garage and pop music. In 2012, she embarked on a solo project revolving around experimental electronic music, with a first performance at the Boiler Room during her residency at the Red Bull Music Academy in New York. Since then, she has pursued various solo and collaborative projects, namely the album Agua Duce, in 2023, with the bassist and percussionist Laura Robles.
With a complex repertoire of extended techniques for electric guitar and real-time sampling devices which she uses as her sound vocabulary, Ale Hop creates performances of deep physical and emotional intensity. Her meticulous approach to the objects she studies as part of her artistic practice reflect her background as an academic and researcher: background that continues to inform her sonic explorations. Her work ranges from performances, albums, audiovisual installations, research on sound and technology, as well as musical compositions for both film and dance productions.
