MUTEK.ES Releases First Names For Edition 8!

MUTEK.ES the Barcelona-based platform for live electronic music and digital creativity, embarks on its 8th edition this March 9-11 at renowned venues around the city, including the Estrella Damm Factory, Nitsa Club and the new Mazda Space. Launching a calendar year filled with expanded activities, while adapting to the ever evolving landscape of contemporary electronic and digital arts, this year’s edition offers a more compact and concentrated experience of new forms and encounters for its increasingly diverse and discerning public. As has come to be expected from its programming, MUTEK creates a context for unusual bookings, special presentations and unique experiences in a city known for an abundance of options. Distinguishing itself with lineups built to showcase multiple performances at a time, creating trajectories that simultaneously compliment and enhance a full range of artistry, this year promises another uncommon program that mixes critically acclaimed international acts with Spanish, Catalan and digital talent emanating from Québec, where MUTEK is headquartered.

The familiar NOCTURNE series at Nitsa will unleash new live shows on the heels of acclaimed albums from ACTRESS (Ninja Tune) and DEMDIKE STARE (Modern Love), the underground undertow of breakthrough American producer AVALON EMERSON, another unmissable live from festival alumnus VAGHE STELLE, undulating, propulsive techno from sorceress DASHA RUSH, and Icelandic music producer BJARKI.

The Factory Estrella Damm will play host to the EXPERIENCE program with experimental powerhouse KLARA LEWIS and the Spanish premiere of the widely lauded live A/V show from AÏSHA DEVI. There will also be installations, artist talks and food trucks at the Factory, with more to be added in the coming weeks.

EXPANDING THE SCOPE

DIGI_LAB BY MAZDA: FEBRUARY 11 & 25, MARCH 10

Like a treasure trail leading up to the festival, MUTEK.ES extends its operations and presence with a series of events in partnership with Mazda at their new space, under the banner DIGI_LAB. Concerned with various manifestations and intersections between technology and visual art, emphasizing new media, installations and audiovisual works, the series launches February 11 with the coordinated domestic lighting extravaganza (from the literally named) MUSIC FOR LAMPS. On February 25 it’s a mesmerizing presentation of NICOLAS BERNIER’S frequencies project, and March 10 during the festival, MINUIT UNE´s laser-guided installation and live show Pyr to Pyr (featuring a member of 1024 Architecture) takes over the venue.

The Mazda Space will also act as the festival’s mission control center, hosting daytime activities, performances and exhibitions.
