Vancouver heavyweight Prison Garde (aka Robert Squire, the former Montrealer also known as Sixtoo, Speakerbruiser Rob, and one half of Megasoid) has teamed up Montreal rising talent Lunice and Ango for Nouveau Palais, a stealthy, uptempo electronic project that will soon find the trio releasing EP Avant Gang on Surefire Sound. In the mid-to-late-noughties, acclaimed producer/tastemaker Squire pioneered Montreal’s bass music scene with his monthly renegade Turbo Crunk nights, bringing the city’s distortion-loving electronic music community together, while also fostering a new generation of talented up-and-coming producers. Lunice Pierre Fermin and Andrew Gordon Macpherson (Ango) were among that next generation of talent. Both Red Bull Music Academy alumni, they’ve released standout EPs on Glaswegian label LuckyMe, spreading the gospel of synthed-out jams, 808 sounds and stripped-down beats. After Squire’s off-the-wall, bass-heavy Megasoid performance at a 2008 MUTEK Nocturne, Nouveau Palais’ hometown debut is bound to strike a nostalgic chord at this year’s edition.
