International Festival of Digital Creativity and Electronic Music

[NORTH AMERICAN PREMIERE/EXCLUSIVE]

MUTEK is especially proud to be bringing ROBERT HENKE & CHRISTOPHER BAUDER’s monumental ATOM installation to Montreal for three showings, in a North American exclusive.

ATOM is among the most ambitious undertakings of Henke’s long and distinguished career, as well as that of multi-media artist Christopher Bauder. Henke is of course one of the seminal orchestrators of the Berlin minimal dub-techno sound that emerged on labels such as Basic Channel and Chain Reaction in the mid- to late-90s and forever altered the course of electronic music. Henke began as an ambient drone practitioner in 1994, and moved into the sphere of techno in 1996 when he joined forces with Gerhard Behles (with whom he co-founded Ableton) to form Monolake. Monolake, in different configurations, has released six full-length albums and numerous singles. In recent years, Henke has invested more time in his solo drone compositions and collaborative projects.

ATOM features a series of compositions played on a matrix of 64 illuminated helium balloons that will be presented at the prestigious Théâtre Maisonneuve at Place des Arts. Its inventor, Christopher Bauder, is a German multi-media artist who has over the course of several projects envisioned new and creative ways to make music using balloons, ladders, or guns. Resident Advisor has even called it an “utterly refreshing” conceptual work that ranks as one of Henke’s “most successful in recent years”.
