International Festival of Digital Creativity and Electronic Music

NORTH AMERICAN DEBUT Over the course of ten years, long-time MUTEK favourites Rechenzentrum have carved out a niche of their own in the world of electronic communication. An audio-visual duo that creates modern soundtracks of austerity and depth, Marc Weiser (who handles audio) and Lillevan (who controls film and video) were among the first to make ample use of the possibilities of the CD/DVD release with 2003’s masterful Director’s Cut, originally release on Mille Plateaux. Their mission is to expand their art by creating entire interactive worlds rather than merely “pieces”. With previous titles on Kitty-Yo, Shitkatapult, and their own Weisermusic, this duo’s highly original and impressive body of work can only be viewed as a symbiotic relationship between the equally integral musical and filmic forms. Weiser is one of the prinicipal organizers behind Berlin’s Club Transmediale, an electronic music and digital creativity much like Montreal’s own MUTEK showcase. They are artists in the truest sense. Constantly exploring the boundaries between sound and vision, their breathtaking live performances act as a further conduit to the overall guiding philosophy of their entire project – to evolve organically and to push the envelope.
