Pepe Mogt — Maija Awi
Pepe Mogt, the celebrated Mexican electronic musician founder of the Nortec Collective, returns to MUTEK with the presentation of a film that captures an audiovisual installation and performance in the Baja California desert. Inspired by the Yuman legend of the Maija Awi snake, the founding myth of the Kumiai people of that region, Pepe Mogt creates an ethnographic and sound journey that transits the textures and colors of the Rumorosa area in Baja, culminating his presentation within a Museographic space called Campo Alaska, where ambient music, electronic rhythms, kraut beats and monolithic illuminations flood the sky and the night of the Baja California desert.
The film ‘Maija Awi, Campo Alaska Concert, an Audiovisual Installation by Pepe Mogt’, was commissioned by the Baja California Ministry of Culture and has the participation of Ernesto Aello in visuals and Carlos Leyva in lighting. The film was made by Tesoro Audiovisual (Ángel Estrada Fuentes) under the concepts of the Baja California Ministry of Culture, Pepe Mogt and Ejival.
