International Festival of Digital Creativity and Electronic Music

South London’s enigmatic hip-hop beatsmith Paul White has amassed a steadily growing fan base with his exuberant, quirky production – part loopy hip-hop, part cosmic distortion, part electrofunk. White first made waves with 2009’s instrumental opus The Strange Dreams of Paul White, which led Mad Decent label head Diplo to declare himself a huge fan. Often included in the forward thinking beats scene with the likes of Flying Lotus and Hudson Mohawke, White’s albums take listeners on a kaleidoscopic musical journey that’s psychedelic, playful, and yet not without its moments of comedy. The mega prolific beatmaker’s latest, 2011’s Rapping With Paul White, issued by the One-Handed Music imprint, was critically hailed as a genre-bending, esoteric symphony of imaginative hip-hop. While he’d previously relied solely on a smorgasbord of eerie samples to pepper his tracks, he called upon a number of hip-hop heavyweights (Guilty Simpson, Danny Brown, Homeboy Sandman) to contribute their voice to his trademark woozy synths and off-kilter beats.
