International Festival of Digital Creativity and Electronic Music

By creating electronic musical instruments that depend on the physical intelligence of the performer, Michel Waisvisz pushes technology to its expressive limit. A composer, performer, and inventor of groundbreaking instruments that make electronic sound tangible, Waisvisz decided in the 1970s not to record his music, but to concentrate on live performance. He has played all over the world and collaborated with a wide range of musicians, from Steve Lacy to Laurie Anderson and DJ Spooky. He is also the Director of Steim (the Studio for Electro-Instrumental Music), a Dutch electronic music centre exclusively dedicated to the performance arts. For his MUTEK performance, he will be using the latest version of HANDS, an instrument he designed himself.
