International Festival of Digital Creativity and Electronic Music

NORTH AMERICAN PREMIERE One of two aliases for Dortmund sound-artist Martin Juhls appearing at MUTEK 2010, Krill.Minima embodies the more exotically refined side of Juhls’ ambient world. Best known as the producer behind the popular Marsen Jules moniker, which leans toward the emotive classical minimalism of Arvo Pärt and Harold Budd, as Krill.Minima Juhls concocts more brittle ambient dub characterized by its moody hisses and crackles. His career began in 2002 with a number of forking ambient aliases intended to explore different facets of the genre: Falter was intended to host dubbier soundscapes. Initially, Krill.Minima initially grew out of Juhls’ desire to develop the ambient possibilities of pop and exotica, but as Marsen Jules attained greater recognition, Krill.Minima began to swallow elements of Falter’s mandate. The alias has so far produced the 2007 albums “Nautica” and “Urlaub Auf Balkonien” as well as a handful of vinyl singles and digital EPs.
