International Festival of Digital Creativity and Electronic Music

The MUTEK team is particularly proud to welcome Jeff Mills to the festival for the very first time. Jeff Mills was born in Detroit, where he emerged as a principal member of the techno capital’s second wave, alongside the likes of Carl Craig and the Underground Resistance collective he helped found. He began his storied career as a DJ in clubs and on local airwaves under the pseudonym The Wizard. In 1988, he founded house duo Final Cut with Anthony Srock, but soon after Mills shifted toward solo techno work, a working method he would retain for the rest of his career. Connecting with the European community via the German imprint Tresor, Mills also keeps a busy release schedule on his own Axis and Purpose Maker labels. A film buff, many of his releases bear the inspiration of classic films such as Fritz Lang’s Metropolis, Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. He has composed a new soundtrack for Buster Keaton’s Three Ages.
