International Festival of Digital Creativity and Electronic Music

CANADIAN DEBUT Turntablist DJ Olive (aka Gregor Asch) has been involved in a wide range of solo projects and various groups including the infamous Brooklyn Lalalandia happenings of the early 90s, which were pivotal showcases for the illbient movement he spearheaded along with DJ Spooky, Sub Dub, and others. After performing, collaborating and touring with such luminaries as The Orb, Kim Gordon and jazz composer Uri Caine, in 2003 DJ Olive finally released his debut solo full length, Bodega, through his own imprint, The Agriculture to great critical acclaim. DJ Olive’s sonic creations are a veritable cornucopia of contrasting acoustic influences, exactly the type of music you would expect from someone raised in Boston, Nova Scotia, Trinidad and Australia. He experiments with sumptuous drones, bass pulses and drifting tones, weaving them together expertly to craft post-ambient hypnotic masterpieces. A frequent collaborator, DJ Olive’s follow-up solo efforts, 2004’s Buoy and 2006’s Sleep, both released on Australian label Room 40, proved again why he deserves all the kudos he receives.
