International Festival of Digital Creativity and Electronic Music

Duo consisting of Lionel Fernandez and Erik Minkkinen, also managers of Parisian label DECO and founders of the Büro organism, which organizes innovative events such as Le Placard, Discom has sought, since 1999, to subtly blend the profound, yet contradictory interests of the two artists in their overall treatment of sonic extremes, not to mention their research of delicate, popular, yet disfigured harmonies. After Sister Iodine, Discom developed, using a computer as the cornerstone of a detailed programming application, an accessible strain of music with a fragile equilibrium. By way of some 'small, digital sabotage software programs' easily parameterized for all the decompositions or games of a spatial quality that Discom was attracted to, their compositions illustrated a playful rapport with technology. Variations on sounds, frequently issued through digital saturations, by accident (i.e. a scratched CD...), or influenced to the point where they are no longer in the moment of diffusion in as much as they are throwing away unrecognizable sounds, the duo shakes up the comfortable listening space of the audience all while remaining musical.
