International Festival of Digital Creativity and Electronic Music

Survivor of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, drummer Aidan Girt is far from admitting defeat and even appears overwhelmed with energy. Under the guise 1-Speed Bike, he's realized an inspired solo project on the Montreal label Constellation, inaugurating the new millennium with the release of his EP 'Droopy Butt Begone'. Close to Broklyn Beats, with whom he shares a certain aesthetic, Aidan also sustains his amusement by releasing other musical farces such as 'Looks Like Velvet, Smells Like Pee' under his other pseudonym Bottleskup Flenkenkenmike. With his lengthy career as a drummer, it's easy to retrace his obsession for rhythm, which figures at the centre of all his music. Marvelously melding beats with suspended atmospheres, Aidan also demonstrates a pronounced taste for lighter sounds as well as those more distorted. His heavily blended dose of these sources comes off quite experimental, and is capable of provoking a strange trance-like state or an irrepressible urge to move. But those who aren't ready for the experience will be content in smiling or thinking about the political discourses Aidan, ever the peaceful agitator, likes to inject into his instrumental texture, adding an unexpected dimension full of humor and irony.
