Second wave of artists unveiled for MUTEK's 14th Edition

As spring comes knocking at winter’s door with its array of blooming sights and sounds, MUTEK unveils additional info about its 14thedition, set to take over Montreal from May 29 to June 2, 2013. Following the recently confirmed MATTHEW HERBERTJAMIE LIDELLJOHN TALABOT and many other anticipated acts for this year’s festival, MUTEK expands its line-up both in scope and spirit. The festival is happy to announce the return of JOHN HOPKINSBRANDT BRAUER FRICKTHE FIELDEMPTYSET and FRIVOLOUS, among others. For their part, young American breakout LAUREL HALO, prolific American producer JOHN TEJADA and new Ninja Tune torchbearers EMIKA and LETHERETTE will grace MUTEK’s stages for the very first time.

Each year, the program is developed as an itinerary that is intended to be experienced in its entirety. That's all the more true this year, with a festival that is more compact than ever before and bursting at the seams with exciting performances. There's a nice balance of novelty, recent discoveries and artists who've already paid the festival a visit but who warrant return invites for us to check in on their evolution and transformation. This edition also happens to be the perfect icebreaker for those looking to discover what the MUTEK experience is all about, because as our 2013 campaign reminds everyone, "You never forget your first time."

Thus, Swede Alex Willner, better known as THE FIELD, and prolific American producer JOHN TEJADA will join the previously announced MICHAEL MAYER and SASCHIENNEfor the special opening night event celebrating the 20th anniversary of esteemed German label KOMPAKT. This edition will also welcome British producer JON HOPKINS, who’ll roll out the sweeping, cinematic emotionality of his forthcoming album Immunity as part of a performance presented in North American premiere. A program highlight and crowd favourite of MUTEK 2010, German trio BRANDT BRAUER FRICK will remind festivalgoers how electro beats and classical flourishes can make for inspired musical partners, as part of a new performance also presented in North American premiere. MUTEK also welcomes back British duo EMPTYSET, whose austere and abrasive rhythms have now been sanctioned by the minimal masters over at Raster-Noton. This 14th edition will also mark the triumphant return of Canadian FRIVOLOUS, who recently relocated his jazz-infused house headquarters from Berlin to Canada’s West Coast, and whose last MUTEK appearance dates back to 2004. It is with no small joy that the festival will also introduce festivalgoers to LAUREL HALO, whose dreamy techno was recently met with glowing praise in the electronic music press, as well as Berlin’s EFDEMIN, polished purveyor of subtle and sophisticated deep house, and JOHN ROBERTS, also a Berlin-based deep house producer – one whose dreamy sonic tableaux showcase the full breadth of his experimentations

What’s more, MUTEK is happy to announce the renewal of its partnership with the renowned Red Bull Music Academy (RBMA) for a second consecutive year. Taking on the form of an RBMA- presented stage Thursday through Saturday at the Society for Arts and Technology – running in parallel to the main Metropolis stage – this valued initiative allows the festival to further its many sonic explorations and gives ticketgoers access to all stages. The line-up includes a vast array of Academy alumni and affiliates; including previously announced artists ANDY STOTTBOUNDARYMARTYN and ONRA. A new crop of performers has been added to the bill: DEADBEAT, yet another homegrown star who now calls Berlin home, R&S Records signee and Academy graduate SPACE DIMENSION CONTROLLER, Los Angeles beatmaker turned dream-popper NOSAJ THING, British acts EMIKA, LETHERETTE, and LUKID, as well the international launch of GRAZE, a new duo comprised of Torontonians ADAM MARSHALL and XI. Highlights from the stage will be recorded and streamed exclusively on
