MUTEK NUIT BLANCHE: Another musical marathon in Montréal

Espace Réunion

As with last year’s 15 continuous hours celebrating 15 years of MUTEK, the festival teams up once again, with Red Bull Music Academy Bass Camp for Nuit Blanche 2015. More than 6,000 people attended this milestone event in 2014.

Mixing emerging local and national talents programmed by MUTEK with participants in the second edition of the RBMA Bass Camp in Montréal, Espace Reunion will host 8 hours of cutting edge electronic music. The event runs from 10AM to 6AM and admission is FREE before 2:30AM.

Bass Camp is a more condensed version of the famed Red Bull Music Academy program, that will see some of the industry’s most influential and creative artists come together for 4 days of lectures, workshops, studio sessions, and club nights.

Detroit techno originator KEVIN SAUNDERSON who will be on hand as a special guest lecturer for this edition of Bass Camp, will be joined by KENNY LARKIN to headline the night, performing DJ and live sets, respectively. Saunderson, as one of the “Belleville Three,” (along with Derrick May and Juan Atkins), is celebrated as a pioneer of the techno genre as it emerged from Detroit in the late 80s. Kenny Larkin’s contributions to the scene and the sound followed shortly after, with his early output appearing on Richie Hawtin’s Plus 8 label in the early 90s, as he expanded the template to include a signature mix of soul, jazz and live instrumentation.

Also on loan from Bass Camp, prodigious Canadian producer KEVIN MCPHEE, a key player in Toronto’s electronic music community, whose own productions chart a path through rickety house, bass music and techno.

With its ear tuned to the fertile and innovative underground that thrives in Montréal, MUTEK has invited a quartet of emerging talents to launch the evening. Debuting at the festival last year with his affecting and ominous A/V show, WOULG brings his latest experiments in glitch and rhythm to the opening spot. CMD is the dub techno name given to the creations of longtime CKUT radio producer, host and DJ, Cyan (Corina MacDonald) whose debut EP arrived recently on noted Montréal imprint Fur Trade Recordings. ADAM FEINGOLD, will deliver a street wise and live techno set, while DROL., a member of the ‘total art’ collective Nebulae, themselves behind a number of underground electronic events (that meld artists from other disciplines and eras into the mix), will unleash his blend of melodic and demented techno.
