(2005-06-02) PANEL 4

Hotel Opus

A music industry’s role is continuously evolving. The proliferation of a credible internet music culture, through widely read online music journals and message boards, and a near-mandatory web presence for labels and artists, has widened the audience base for a niche-oriented market like electronic music. Whereas not even a decade ago, independent artists were relegated to exposure in major urban centers, many acts are now finding audiences in markets for their albums all over the world. Add in the explosive growth of music downloading, and that’s a lot to consider. How are current electronic music labels, distributors, publicists, promoters, and print magazines handling the restructuring of their respective markets? A panel of leading electronic music representatives will discuss how they are adapting the ways in which they work, and in the process try to redefine their role in the overall music industry business model.
